I am not so sure it's company politics.  I think it's business.

Here you are, distributing a compiler that makes your #1 compeition CPUs FASTER.
 Your CPUs are already a bit slower, and now you're just going to make that gap
larger?

I seriously doubt AMD is going to do anything.  With all their new CPUs coming
out, and trying to break the 2.0Ghz mark, they have their hands full.  AMD might
be the current "king" of CPUs, but Intels got the money.  And they have plenty
of it.
