This is definitely a defective battery unit. Compaq claims to have improved battery life only with 20% in the new 3800 series. They might have gotten electriefied by HP's Carly Fiorina, but from 40 minutes to 14 hours (as Compaq claims as standby time) is a bit rough a ride. :)) I hope it's (still) guarantee - they can get very troublesome over batteries. J.
