It says it in the manual!

How do I change the "crashing" sound used for a check?

The quivering I mentioned is when making a fast response. I am now using the
"voice" sounds because I just can't take that crashing sound for a check. When I
make a fast reply, the voice cuts short the move announcement and the piece sort
of jumps, or quivers.
