Because they knew (almost) nothing about Computer Chess. I played myself a few
10 min games against the old programs on Athlon 1.8 GHz some time ago.
I won most of the games, some ended in a draw because I spoiled them in time
trouble.
Its not a big deal.
I played all the games with white and I am aware that it is much easier to get a
favourable position (closed) with the white pieces. One example:

This discussion is only theoretical of course. Nobody (except some Computer
Chess enthusiasts) know who Nemeth is. Everyone knows who Kasparov is.

If you would know ALL games he ever played against the programs you would
certainly think something else. His approach simply doesnt work ALWAYS.

I think GM Altermann would cook up some interesting positions for Deep Junior 8.

You seem to forget also that almost all his posted games are played with white
pieces.
Unfortunately you have to play also with black pieces in Chess.
