The Novag Diamond was advertised in the 1994 USCF Christmas catalog as being "USCF action-rated at 2383 by the Computer Rating Agency during the 1994 U.S. Open playing 48 games against players from Expert to Senior Master under strictly enforced tournament conditions." Same rating was given to the portable 1994 Novag Sapphire. As I look at the picture of the 1994 Novag Diamond and my current 2003 Novag Star Diamond, they look pretty much the same. Don't have any statistics for rated play, but I've seen some of the discussion in this forum about the possible rating of the Star Diamond. It certainly would be a shame if Novag just pumped out the 1994 version of the Diamond with modified processor, opening book moves, number of time controls and we still don't see rated play above 2300. I wanted to send the JPG of the scanned ad along with this post but didn't see an option for attachments.
