Go up one level in this thread

Hi again Fernando:

Actually, I'm not a 'fan' of the Waitzkin family ever since I did diagram's for
the young lads book, and at a cut rate too, & did not even receive a book credit
for it! - But enough of old, hard memerories of betrayel, I'm returning to NY
for all of the fun (and because at this point I've run out of funds to live
here), and challange that awaits me there.

I was only using Waitzkin & Shaked as broad generalizations for the point I was
trying to draw, which is that it is better when one's parents support your life
choice (my father, especially didn't, & that still hurts), and that is usaully
helped by a culture's embracing of that art or sport or whatever. That's why of
course in America, we have hundred's of star Baseball player, & Basketball
player's, and leagues where even the AAA can 'get by'. And also why chess
(IMHO), could be set for a major explosion here. There are surely more
scholastic tournaments then at any previous time in history, and with computer's
and the Internet coming into everyone's home, I'm cautiously optimistic about
the future. (Well, at least as a scholastic chess teacher:))

What you say is certainly what I meant also - it would not be good for anyone to
be reincarnated as a 'cooked-genius' like Kamsky, but rather just as someone who
finding the thing they love to do, would be 'lucky' enough also to have the
family life that supports those dreams. May I say a word of kindness toward my
Mom, who has always been their for me & still is.
And again, I appologize to anyone reading in this chess club, who thinks that
one's personel life should never filter in.
