>And again, I appologize to anyone reading in this chess club, who thinks that >one's personel life should never filter in. On the contrary, perhaps there should be more of this sort of thing - (especially on RGCC). I have a theory that if everyone knew more about each other as people (real personalities with feelings, rather than just disembodied points of view) we would treat each other better when we post. I don't subscribe to the view that anything not directly connected with computer chess is "off topic" and innappropriate. If you go to a chess club in a town hall, you dont talk only about chess. You also discuss your car, or the weather or your job with the other members - enjoying their company because you have an interest in common. If a "real world" club disapproved of discussing anything "off-topic" at club meetings, I'd leave ! RGCC seems to be one of the most "disfunctional" groups on the net. One of the best is a flute mailing list that my girlfriend subscribes to. It's about 10%-20% on-topic - but everyone knows the name of everyone elses cats; and it seems to work all the better for that. Just some random thoughts.... Quenton Fyfe (No Cats)
