It was worse with clean TTs as well as stuffed ones. It's a naive scheme to put it bluntly. 'Common sense' might indicate that it is preferable to keep deep transpositions since they save more work. But a little reasoning gives you the insight that the majority of your search nodes will be in the last few plies. And that coupled with the fact that the overwhelming majority of transpositions appear when the two positions are at the same depth gives the why. MvH Dan Andersson
