i have a couple of remarks about this, since the author of this engine is well
known as a co-author of a strong checkers engine.

for all those who find his statements about his engine and/or the comparison
with "zillions of games" over the top: i have heard similar statements about
this guy's checkers engine time and again.

for example, he claims on his webpage that his checkers program is much better
than all others, because
- his database is better compressed
- his database access is 4 times faster than all other programs.

his database is in fact smaller, by about 10 or 15% than that of the others, but
whether it's 3.5GB or 4GB doesn't matter too much, since you won't be able to
keep it all in memory anyway.
i have no idea how he can make a claim like being 4 times faster than others
when there is absolutely no way to know how much time another program is
spending on the database lookup.

that being said, his checkers program is quite good; so in principle he knows
what he's doing. but he likes to make up some wild stories to confuse the people
who he's trying to sell his stuff to, to make them believe it's better than it
really is.

incidentally i also once ordered a book on checkers from him, and i never
received it - although my credit card was duly charged for that book. i got a
lot of excuses, but no book, and no money back. i know some other people who
have a similar story to tell...

cheers
