No doubt the American group would have a bigger budget and probably a faster
super computer with a bigger power supply and bigger cooling system, but more
computer chess expertise?

Well it's either that or "the opponent is stronger than me" :)

You wouldn't hear the typical european sports nut say something like that
either, it's only because in computer chess it _is_ actually possible to achieve
statistical significance.
