We all have something to hide :-). It was a championship, not a quiz, after all.
Inquiry demands more than reluctant coorperation. I sincerely disbelieve that
the commercial participants would have been more forthcoming.

My suggestion would be to have an independent jury check all contestants at the
start. The other method seems somewhat haphazard. Unless there are clear rules
that I'm not aware of which is more than likely.

I know.

The programmer wasn't there, so a few hours wasn't a likely scenario.

Cloning an engine is liking doping in sports, only the stupid get caught.
Participating with an engine, where several versions have been freely available
without raising suspicion, that one knows is nothing more than a rip off, is
unbelievably stupid. But anything is possible.
