Around a year ago, when I was a beginner at Go, I thought as you do. I thought
that there had to be a more straightforward way to express things when stronger
players tried to explain my mistakes to me and used those terms to do so.
Today, I feel that shape, thickness and influence are quite tangible concepts
with no mysterious touch to them and I use them the same way my teachers did
when I do the teaching with weaker players :).
