Multiple winning continuation positions usually make lousy test positions. Unless one route is obviously better/faster/simpler. One can argue what simplification means since it depends on what technical skill one posesses. And reduction isn't a good chess maxim at all. Unless it is to a totally won position. And that also depends on ones technical/memory skills. But Adams most probably saw that black was dead lost in most any variation white chooses to play. MvH Dan ANdersson
