You'd be talking about losing milliseconds during a 3 minute search. I keep seeing a really big improvement with chessmaster 10k w/o log file. A modest improvement for chessmaster 9k w/o log file. I am using 4min+2sec time control. With longer time control, less improvement is likely. My testing is not statistically adequate to make a valid conclusion. So let's just say I'm making a suggestion to cm9k and cm10k users to try it without the log file. To remove the log file when using fritz8 gui, blank out the log file in "inbetween.ini".
