The reason you don't have to "configure drivers, desktops, and application" in Windows, is that They come preinstalled when you buy the PC. Now a days, since Linux also comes preinstalled, it 'Just works' too, and no configuring required either. WinXP is not a bad OS, but those days are gone when 'Just Works' was true only for windows...
