i am sure you are right with your last sentence, but for every one of those who
i might enjoy discussing various issues with there are many others there who i
do not wish to discuss anything with (there are also such people in CCC of
course; but i don't mind reading crappy posts about computer chess while i do
mind reading crappy posts on religion/race etc).

the whole argument about CTF being "low cost" doesn't convince me. of course it
comes at little additional cost if you count the entire expenses for server,
bandwidth, 24/7 troubleshooting on CCC and nothing on CTF. but if i did the
accounting i'd say that both of these cost half of the fix costs.
