Uri, I always enjoy your posts--thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

It is true that the 2-3 times faster Rebel is not part of the commercially sold,
full Rebel 10, 10a or 10b software versions.

However, the special Rebel 10 chess engine (not Rebel 10 full program, not 10a,
not 10b, but a special engine only) for use with ECTool is said by Rebel or
Schroder to include 2-3 times faster algorithms based on what has already been
learned from Chess Tiger.

I was already a paid and registered ECTool owner (necessary to allow use of
Rebel 9 or Rebel 10 special analysis engines for ECTool) and I downloaded the
special Rebel 10 engine for ECTool, free as part of my Rebel 10 subscription.

From my experience in analyzing many games using ECTool and the special Rebel 10
engine, the Rebel 10 special engine is indeed faster than the Rebel 10, 10a or
10b full Rebel versions. It usually generates faster times for best lines at
each ply level as it cranks away during position or game analysis.

I do all my game analysis after OTB tournaments using the ECTool and Rebel 10
special engine, instead of the full Rebel 10b version--because it is faster. I
haven't rigorously tested it, but I have compared it on a few positions. I'm
not sure that it is faster in *all* positions, but it may be.

The ECTool software has another analysis advantage over the full Rebel 10
software in that it allows the user to mark multiple selected moves in the game
score with an asterisk and then, upon request, it will analyze only the
asterisked moves in the game. It does this automatedly, skipping the moves
without an asterisk. Thus it will spend time only on the moves you wish to be
analyzed, not on all moves from some initial position until the end of the game.
This avoids wasting analysis time on routine recaptures and other obvious or
uninteresting moves.

I recommend that people interested in Rebel products spend some time reading the
many screens on the Rebel website. There is a lot of material there, and much
interesting stuff. And, the Rebel bulletin board is a better site to discuss
Rebel specifically with other users or get an answer from the Rebel Support
team.
