As I designed the ICC client in CA6, I do have some knowledge on this. It was
indeed the reason why other servers such as FICS were not supported. What was
the gain? We got direct support by the ICC people to support some of the newer
functions included in the client, such as the constantly updated list of players
with their status, to name but one of several. There was no easy way to do this,
and it would have meant bombarding their server with commands to provide this
sort of functionality. So it was a deal that allowed Chess Assistant to offer
greater value to the users. I'm sorry to see the support go, but I'm sure the
new server will provide good value to the users. In any case, allow me to add
that I no longer have any say in the matter, other than as a user myself.
