The brute force module is an addon hardware for the Saitek Galileo or
renaissance computers.

It is named brute force but its strongest mode is still selective for games.

it also has a brute force search option just like all chess programs have these
days. in brute force mode all the possible moves are being considered without
exeption. this will reduce the ply depth greatly on a given time control. it
makes a good choice for analising a position when the computer is allowed to use
alot of time. nothing will be missed within the ply reached.

selective search can go deeper in ply by deciding to stop considering lines it
thinks are erelevant. hence sometimes missing good moves. I guess here when a
chess knowledge of a program kicks in.

all the best
