Thank you very much Murat, Steve and Uri for your thoughts on this. As always
with a forum it is nice to see different views on a given topic. I was a little
surprised at the lack of response to my post but you explained it well Murat. I
hadn’t realised that most of the forum were not interested in Computer V Human
anymore and only program V program.

After a long think I have come to this conclusion.
I think that once PC programs can beat the top GMs consistently interest in
chess programs will diminish, not chess. Of course you will have your hard-core
followers but these are more likely to be computer programmers and hardware
enthusiasts rather than chess players. The rest of us will then return to the
art of chess and again hope to play better at the next chess congress. PC chess
programs will go on and probably be adopted by chip manufactures as a benchmark
tool.
So I think chess playing is going to be safe and will ride out the computer
upstart!

Best regards

Clive
