This was raised by several of the participants in CCT7. The opinion is that the program is playing. Not the operator/author. It should be making all decisions relating to the game, and when connected to an ics server, the operator/author is really reduced to a spectator role. As we have seen operators can make mistakes, and _anything_ can happen in computer chess. Peter
