I have played a couple of shuffle games on one of the servers. I found the
program I played really had problems... because some good rules of thumb in
some positions are bad in others, like how to develop, which pawns to push, and
so forth. IE one game had the program play a g3/g6 type move, but no bishop on
f1/f8 to fill the hole... that can create a weakness that just wouldn't happen
normally.

I see the same thing with crafty in a particular wild variant where you mirror
the board so that all white's pieces are on the 8th rank, all his pawns are on
the 7th ready to promote. Crafty can bust you with this because of all the
queens, but it is poorly adapted to this without a deep search, because it's
development rules are totally lost on this position, king safety is confused
by this and so forth...

It is fixable, but I don't worry about such since that isn't 'real chess'.
