Hex is another example. People of intermediate strength (like myself) can still
out-read the strongest hex-programs even on the smaller non-trivial boards where
pure tactical fighting skill is of overwhelming importance (like the 11x11 or
13x13 boards), and with respect to long-term strategy on the bigger boardsizes,
all hex-engines I have seen which support play on large boards anyway appear to
frankly be quite clueless.
As far as I know, attempts to build Twixt programs stronger than human beginner
level have so far also been unsuccessful, but I have not played the game often
enough myself to feel like recommending it to others.
