Aside from its great strength, the biggest reason I must say has been its availability as a UCI (and previously MCS) engine, allowing me to run it in other interfaces. In my case, most notably Chess Assistant! All the top engines were stuck in the Fritz GUIs, which while a nice interface is still not my database program of choice, so analyzing with them meant having two programs open. A pain in the neck. No complaints about Tiger, but variety was lacking a bit. So Shredder was a wonderful breath of air: sure I don't have Fritz, Junior or Hiarcs, but I do have the Numero Uno, Ha! Now of course, I'm feeling spoiled: Shredder, Fruit, Toga, and Rybka! :-D Albert
