Hi Franz,

ChessBase has no problem at all with Rybka or Fruit, not now and probably not in
the near future.
Simply forget about the freak-sector which is represented here and in other
computer chess fora. You can not earn real money with that. Money is earned on
the mass market, the first company that understands this was the producer of
ChessMaster.
How could something become a problem to ChessBase ? It is doubtful that this is
still possible -> The product must have then an even better GUI then ChessBase
has, better features for normal chess players, better courses for beginners and
a better chess server in backhand. And of course a company with as much money,
man-power etc. behind it. They would need good relations to chess organizations
etc. to build a market and to get the interest on their product. And to steal
customers from ChessBase. So this would be a process of several years. And
ChessBase is not sleeping in the meanwhile - e.g. once laughing (Friedel) about
Chess Servers they are now quite big in the market and I am very sure they start
to earn money with it.
So Rybka & Fruit will only become a problem when one of them is included in a
great GUI with great support and good marketing people behind. I do not see that
to happen. To me it's way more likely that one of those two engines will be seen
as a ChessBase native in the near future.
As long you can only download them as an engine they are just for Freaks, for
the masses the installation process etc. is way to complicate. They want to have
one CD, put that in their drive, a install-routine must be shown and copy the
data on the drive and then they want to use it. Everything else is freakish and
will never earn money.

Greets, Thomas
