If restricted choice of opening is a problem you may be right. I do not see it as a problem because I do not care about book and for people who care about book it is possible to use both restricted book and more wide book. <snipped> > >Do not forget that to find novelties that work against all programs is not easy >and needs a huge amount of work... I agree that you need a lot of work. One way that can only help the engine is simply to play a lot of games at 120/40 for Shredder(after you already have a book) when shredder has significantly faster hardware than the ssdf hardware and the opponent use the ssdf hardware and simply record the wins in the book. There is good chance that the opponent is going to play the same game in the ssdf games and even if it does not play the same move some moves after it is out of book you get time advantage and a good chance to win.
