I've always used infinite mode for analysis. I've never used any other time control. And when it comes to books, I just look at their data in the window pane and make my best judgement, all things considered. Now enters a book where I would like to know which move it would play automatically (the new Rybka book) and I feel lost. I've never tried to determine that before. Infinite mode won't work for this. I set up everything per instructions in the readme file, but still I don't see how to get it to make the book move so I can see it. Of course I'm using the Chessbase/Fritz GUI (from Shredder 8). The best notion I have come up with is to set the time control for a "fixed time". So I load a correspondence game in progress that's still in the opening phase and try to determine what move the Rybka book would play here. I presume that when it starts thinking, it will play book moves immediately, which is how I can determine that it's a book move. But how do I get the engine to start thinking in "fixed time" mode for a particular position? Or maybe there's a better way to do this? I know you're gonna say to read the % column and look at the color of the moves (green or red). OK, but that's not the same as seeing the move made on the chessboard. I want to see it in action! :) Also, I came across one instance where I'm puzzled. There were only 2 sample games for the move that was played versus many sample games for the alternate, both green colored moves, but it played the former. I thought at least 3 sample games was necessary for it to play a book move?! WP
