I think if computer is still having enough pieces to mate incautious opponent, it shouldn't resign. My program never resigns. Perhaps it could, if it has only king alone against opponents army. BUT there are always the possibility for stalemate. One can sometimes find beautiful sequence of moves leading to stalemate in a "lost" game. Or perpetual checks or ... Summa summarum: NEVER resign!
