If you give enough information on the command line that WinBoard knows exactly what you want to do, it won't bring up the startup dialog. For engine-user mode, you have to select the mode with the /cp option, and specify *both* chess engines with /fcp= and /scp=. I'm sorry this isn't explained in the documentation. See the WinBoard help file and FAQ if you need more information about the options mentioned or don't know what "the command line" means. --Tim
