Bob,

My own program is not 2600 level. :) Guess I am just as cautious as
everyone else. :)

I think Crafty would score (much better program than my own)
2500 TPR FIDE, if allowed to play in a FIDE tournament where the
average FIDE rating was 2500 for the human field, and Crafty on a high
end multi-processor machine (8 x PIII-800 for example). This would be
a normal FIDE event so everyone has to play everyone, including the
computer (the program should not be eligible for prizes, so the GM's
would not loose any money). :)

Match play against Kasparov, Crafty would get beat on most any machine.

I also believe that any of the Top 5 programs (and Rebel Century) would
score 2500 TPR (or higher) if run on the top machines. In my opinion,
the more computers in the tournament, the better all the programs would
do since a single strategy could not be used against all the programs
(just as one strategy would not work against all the GM's). :) IMHO.

I respect your opinion, you are a very valid and reliable source.
You are also an expert in this field and have a great program. :)

However,
I also respect the opinion of IM Kaufman and the results of the Rebel
matches. I think the top programs can play competatively with GM's and
in tournament play would score 2500 or more TPR in FIDE events. :) IMHO

I also think the opinion of the SSDF with respect to SSDF ratings is
valid and reliable. :) I also think that SSDF ratings are more reliable
than FIDE or PCA ratings, since SSDF provides an error of measure. FIDE
and PCA should do the same, in my opinion. :)

Just my opinion. :)

Best Regards,
Chris Carson
