Hi bruce, I think we've all felt that at one time or another. It's really easy to miss some fine point that seems obvious to another. 9 times out of 10 it's only obvious once you know about it! I've been embarassed myself when I present what I thought was a good idea and suddenly someone makes you feel stupid because everyone else is already doing something like it but better! But I've learned quite a bit by doing this so I just let it all hang out now! I've noticed a few posts from "newcommers" trying to write their first or (early) chess programs. They are struggling with things we've solved/learned over the years. In a couple years they will be beating us! My feeling is that sharing the ideas is best for everyone (you too), even if you're trying to remain competitive. Someone will let you know most of time if something better is around and they will be more likely to contribute themselves. Well, I have to go now, I need to implement your checkmate idea ... - Don
