Just by the fact that computers get faster every year, the programs get stronger. Features are now the most important thing since most top programs are close in strength. Genius needs a PGN manager. It's database support for PGN is a disgrace. Features I would like to see in Genius 6 1) Increase the no. of editable ply to 100 for the opening books. 2) Allow pawn promotions for the opening book editor. 3) Allow conversion of opening books to pgn format 4) Allow maximum no. of move alternatives to increase to at least 24. 5) Maximum contempt factor should be doubled to allow for piece sacs. 6) Bring back figurine notation for move alternative window of book editor and the search information screen. 7) A 2nd smaller diagram should be allowed for previous branch nodes of book editor. 8) Genius should be able to search by ELO rating along with search for position and materiel. 9) The book name that is loaded should be shown at all times. 10) Clear up the confusion over start.bok and bookname.txt and user.bok in the manual and fix the non working of the auto load book feature. 11) A work in process thermometer bar should be included for the merge book feature. 12) Increase the no. of move evaluation types from 4 to 7. 13) Allow the program on it's own to add move evaluations and user defined number of moves from the program search to its user editable books . 14) Allow a dynamic data base search capability that will search for themes like the Bxh7 piece sac. 15) Allow the program to show all the transpositions to a position that is contained within the user book. 16) Allow the program to implement a backsolving feature like Bookup, but with the option of setting move evaluations of unclear being better than equal for white and equal being better than unclear for black but correct the bookup flaw of not giving the opposite priority to the 2 symbols “unclear” and “=”. 17) When the mouse hovers over an icon, a description of the function should appear. 18) Allow DDE implementation of database merging. 19) Allow full internet TCP-IP playing capability with another Genius 5 user. 20) Provide pick list editable fields for the database. 21) Add a forward and backward multi move control which switch the position to next or previous branch (multiple candidates) when in the user book and a multi move scroll bar that will scroll backwards or forwards to the beginning or end of the move list. 22) Allow the user to jump to any move in the game by clicking on that move in the move list. 23) Make the figurines and fonts larger in the move windows. 24) Allow the user to offer the program a draw. 25) Allow email user move capability 26) Make a WIN 95 version that allows long filenames. 27) Allow the program to keep its PV line for the next move if the user plays the PV first move. 28) When loading a multigame PGN file, it is impossible to tell which game you are choosing. Only the game no's show in the dialog box. 29) Allow the user to pick the moves that the program should look at in a special analyze feature. 30) Implement a chess tree feature. 31) Allow the user to annotate the game at any point so that the annotations show up as a variation tree in the comment window and allow the user to play through these permanently saved variations. 32) Allow use of hash tables up to 64Mb of RAM. 33) Searches on the database do not give any indication as to how many games are found. 34) There is no rate your play feature. 35) Allow more user choice of diagram fonts. 36) After a database search , if the search feature doesn’t find any games, you can load the first game of the database, but you can’t load any other games until you go to Database/Select Database/List games again to bring back the list. 37) The coach window interferes with the board when it pops up. 38) Genius should have a separate book learning feature. 39) If you checkmate Genius, it will sneakily switch sides on you immediately after the checkmate. 40) The search mask does not keep the previous settings. 41) You cannot select more than 1 game at a time from the cbf databases. 42) If you exit a database, and go back in, the last game does not set as the default. 43) You can’t mark a game. 44) The game number doesn’t show on main screen. 45) There is no help on using the 3D controls. 46) The analyze game function comments are only in long algebraic notation. 47) Cannot classify database with any key. 48) You can’t test the colours of the board while setting them in the Win 95 version. 49) You can’t print a diagram with game moves. 50) There is no on screen analysis when in 3D mode. 51) There is no blindfold play. 52) There is no ELO handicapping. 53) There is no provision in setup position to indicate whether either side has castling rights or whether an En Passant capture is possible. 54) The opening book editor lacks the ability to import PGN games.
