I think that yor estimate is wrong here.
one idea that was posted by Bas Hamastra to do checks in the first plies of the
qsearch and I think it is productive for movei.

This idea is not used in Crafty of today and Bob did not try it.

Another idea by David Omid encouraged me to try R=3 in null move pruning and the
results seem to be better.

The point is that the claim is that the program is going to be free.
If it is the case then it seems that the author has not commercial aspirations.
