I wrote "unless you're a novice programmer". If you don't mind, I'll add you to
that category.

You can't make that conclusion. The feedback will be important for further
development, which doesn't preclude a commercial venture. Who knows, the results
from the freeware version might mean a few offers from the commercial software
companies.
