If no mate, then call it a draw. Arena has that. IMO the games are usually more interesting if the players are about equal strength. This often leads to longer games in which the endgame techniques are important. If there were a fixed number of moves to be played, it would be almost impossible to checkmate, it is possible to escape the mate for a long time by giving a way material. I think it should be implemented as a rule so the engine would know how to last "beyond" this move rule, as a result we would see completely different play. Kind of like when you play blitz and you start playing on your opponents clock, even giving away your queen can confuse him enough to lose that 1 sec which ultimately loses the game, common trick really :) -S. >Bob D. > >
