In here lays the problem too since a generic Winboard/Uci gui must relay on the engine to give the user possibility to adjust strength, playingstyle etc. I don't have Deep Sjeng but as I read on Lokasoft's site this is tried to deal with for this engine. As an sample of its flexibility you can make all Chessmasters personalities be selectable from inside the gui with some minor trick, even the personality name would be present in the gamescore. Compared to Chessmaster there are some pro for the CP gui that you wouldn't find in Chessmaster, ex. support for DGT board, easier and more flexible way to play online, better book support/feature for training-games. They don't manage to create the atmosphere that you find in Chessmaster but this is very closed tied to the generic engine suport. CM only support one engine with this reach features so they have an easier task here. They could of couse do it like CB, to selecting lines based of the output from the engine to create some styles but this isn't in the spirit of the winboard approx and you hit a boundary very soon when there isn't much more to do. There are sure much to improve in the gui for human-engine play and I would like that you direct your proposals to Lokasoft or their forum for discussion. Starting with being negative wouldn't give a productive debate. Maybe one of the problem is too much feedback from CC-people and too little from chessplayers that use it for human-engine games.
