Jorge and any who might share such outrage over rating disparities: this is all
such old news... It's one of the main reasons I no longer contribute to these
threads despite greatly enjoying the work of the SSDF. I've seen them, and
argued them AD NAUSEAUM.

The following are a small taste taken from the CCC archives some 4-5 years ago.
Mind you, these aren't isolated complaints, but full-fledged threads.

Subject: SSDF Rating Irregularities (69 posts); started on December 09, 1999 at

"(...)Bob Hyatt's view is that the best of the current programs are about 2450.
That is at least 200 points less than their SSDF ratings.(...)"

Contributors included Bob Hyatt, Ed Schroeder, Christophe Theron, Thoralf
Karlsson (the SSDF big boss), Uri Blass, and myself among others.

Subject: SSDF ratings are 100% accurate (66 posts); started on December 12, 1999
at 08:49:08

http://chessprogramming.org/cccsearch/ccc.php?find_thread=82028

"(...)SSDF ratings: inflated or not?
Here's what I think: the ratings are not inflated in the least bit. Sounds crazy
doesn't it? But it's not. People get too caught up trying to make these futile
comparisons between SSDF ratings and human ratings whether USCF, FIDE, or
whatever. The point is, and it has been repeated very often, there simply is no
comparison. The only comparison possible is that both are generated using Elo's
rating system, but that's where it ends.(...)"

Subject: Chess Tiger - Is It Really 2696 ELO? (87 posts); started on December
21, 1999 at 13:15:11

http://chessprogramming.org/cccsearch/ccc.php?find_thread=83612 (the post and
what followed was actually a subthread)

"I apologise for bringing up a subject which has undoubtedly already been
discussed, but according to the SSDF ratings, Chess Tiger is 2696.

According to the FIDE ratings, there are only 11 players in the world with a
higher rating than this.

Can this possibly be correct?"

Subject: My proposal to SSDF: decrease level by 100 points (33 posts); started
on July 28, 2000 at 00:58:14

http://chessprogramming.org/cccsearch/ccc.php?find_thread=122325

"(...)I made comparison between Carson's latest human list and SSDF to clear
possible level difference. But it's very difficult, when there are not many
exactly same software and hardware combinations. I removed multiprosessor
results and made assumption, that difference between 200MMX and 450 Mhz is 79p
(for comp-comp, sure not for human-comp).(...)"

Subject: New ssdf rating 07/07 - Shredder breaks 2800 mark!! (11 posts); started
on July 08, 2003 at 22:20:05

http://chessprogramming.org/cccsearch/ccc.php?find_thread=305590

"Hi, I thought everone would like to know shredder 7.04 first program to break
2800. Shredder has a rating of 2810 and fritz 8 distant 3rd place at 2762.
Can't wait till the world computer chess championship this Nov.? perhaps
shredder 8 not to far down the road."

I was going to include more but the archives are being updated at the moment,
and the pause allowed me to see that this is enough already.
