I have also noticed that if for some reason Ruffian comes out of book after a
bad opening line (and it's book is full of them), it will use as much as 75% of
the time control to find out where it went wrong. Of course by then it is lost
and really doesn't matter. It is the only program that I know of that does this.

I would really like the ability to create my own book for Ruffian. I feel with a
better book it may/may not be slightly better. An opening book can only do so
much.
