But they don't seem to take anyone seriously, whether civil or uncivil. I know Omid worked hard to get this event sponsored in his country, and that criticism of it is going to naturally put him on the defensive. But it's not just Omid (whose views are understandable). There is a palpable contempt for anyone who laments the economic barriers to participation, especially if they come from the left side of the pond. There is a real need to separate this event from national or regional association. It is a field that lives inside technology which is almost universally available and accessible to everyone with an interest in it from any point on the globe. They are simply ripping it out of it's natural habitat so that only a few may participate.
