1. I have no clue about Phalanx!

2. If we are talking about the "bench" command in the classic-gui the bench is
in the gui and is not using any engine. This command is quite accurate if you
compare AMD oder P3 like CPUs (eg it should be ok for the Centrino as well). The
test is penelizing P4 CPUs. Your 2.11 basicly says that your CPU is 2.11 times
faster than a 1.0GHz P3. Which is ok but the 3.2GHz P4 is faster than a 1.72GHz
P3!

3. I doubt that result of crafty. Something is wrong. Your AMD 64 is for sure
NOT 20% slower than the P4 even in 32bit mode!

To get a correct result of different CPUs is difficult. Just to get a guess.
Take 5 Engines (e.g. Fritz, Shredder, Crafty, YACE, ProDeo (or your choise, the
more engines you use the better!)), take the starting position. Let them
calculate with fixed Hashsize for 1 min. Add the calculated nodes for each CPU
and divide it by the number of programs. Then you get an average node number
which is somehow balanced by the fact that some progs are better at P4s and some
are better on AMD. Eg it is said that Shredder likes AMD and Fritz P4.(Maybe
Crafty is not the best choise for this test because your AMD is for sure NOT 20%
slower than the P4, something IS broken there!)

If you want my guess for your Computer: They are very close in speed. If I have
to bet an a winner I chose the ... P4. You know my PC and I usually compare it
with a P4 from 3.2-3.4 GHz. SO I think yours is slightly slower than a 3.2 GHz.

Bye
Ingo

PS: Btw the "Shredderbench" in the Chessbase-Shredder GUI is broken on fast
computers as well. Because of the short time the bench needs you get "random"
reuslts there that are not comparable.
