Actually I did it some time ago. Before I knew there were something called
winboard, I wrote a nice GUI in Visual Basic. This was even before writing the
engine!
When it was near to be finished, I discovered CCC, Winboard, etc...
Imagine the rest... I discarded my GUI and wrote Averno for winboard.
To be true, my GUI had a nice looking, but sucked in protocol :(

Exactly! Without noticing, you got my point. Chenard and Pax are less known
than Averno. So, it's up to the authors to join the most popular GUI, or to
stick with their favourite. And up to the users to go for their favourites
programs/GUI's.
You know, I really do love old Comet A90 DOS version. I've played much more
games with it than with wb versions. Nothing bad with wb versions; simply I
prefer A90 DOS. It's my choice as a user. If every engine worked only under a
common GUI, I wouldn't have this choice.

I'm afraid you didn't get my point here. I was speaking from the _user_ point
of view. I know as a programmer I can have some priviledges, but note that I
have very little time for Averno, and I want to spend it doing something that
_everyone_ can enjoy. Having myself the UCI GUI for free is not enough if 'my
users' don't have it. This is an important point.
