The tournament was completely screwed up before we even got there.  There was
nothing in the initial announcement, but the WMCCC has always been a
single-processor event, so some people went out and bought single-processor
machines.  Then the announcement was made that multi-processor machines were
okay, and some people went out and bought those.  There was a big problem when
everyone figured out what happened, and David Levy made a snap judgement that
wasn't perfect for anyone.  There were attempt to make more changes, but the
only big change in the players' meeting was the addition of an amateur title.

If people had been allowed to compete in both categories by bringing two
machines, I would not have got on the plane.  Things like that turn any event
into a complete farce.

Fritz participated as "Quest".

I don't know why anyone would think this.  The championship tournament is the
computer championship.  The computer championship is not some private match held
in Spain or wherever.
