The main solution was that I had to turn Show Thinking off in Winboard. However once I did that Crafty's book became corrupted. Probably unrelated coincidence. However there is still the multiple processes of Comet each grabbing cpu time. The only thing that affects is perhaps Comet's strength. No more error messages nor vanishing pieces now that Show Thinking has been turned off.
