To ensure some sort of compliance, you could also have an ongoing conversation between the auto232 protocol server and the engines. Perhaps an auto-transmission of log data would be worthwhile (at least the pv, ce, nodes, depth in plies). It does not seem far different from Winboard, so perhaps some extensions could be added to Winboard itself to fascilitate this.
