Yes, it happens all the time. This is especially annoying when making fast moves and the piece just sort of quivers for lack of a better term. As for changing the sound, I can't find anthing according to what the manual says. The manual states ChessMaster help is where you look to change the sounds to your preference - I don't mean the choices given within the game. You didn't ask but I am using Windows XP.
