So, apart from installing it on your drive, about nothing was further added
(written) to the tree. Every evening, and often several times during the same
evening, something was added to the tree (learned information added to all the
book moves played in the game and/or new games added). It seems that the more
you write things to the tree, the more chance you have to lose information... If
you let it as it is on the CD, than nothing bad happens to it. So, the ideal
condition would be to not let it "learn" anything.

And it is not a "true" learning as is the one of Crafty (whose learning takes
the evaluation's changes that occur later in the game and transfer that
knowledge to the last book move --as I understand it) but is influenced only by
the result obtained in the games played. So if it plays against a French Defense
and lose, the learn evaluation will affect all book moves played (the last
moves the most) and even 1.e4 which will be reduced to 0% chance of be played!
It will then start playing almost only 1.d4. Until it loses or draws. Then, 1.d4
will too have a 0%. When it will have a draw/lost with all "playable" first
move, it will reajust the probability of them all to be about even. Same thing
for the rest of the tree... If the first game with 1.e4 is a win, it will then
EXCLUSIVELY play it, until a draw or lost occurs. So, as long as it wins and as
long as the opponent always plays the same moves, Fritz will always play the
same too (thus only playing ONE line).
