It was a rate-of-twist issue. It wasn't so much the heat, as the centrifugal force that caused the thing to fly apart. The thing doesn't have much recoil so you could, with effort, keep the scope on the target, and on occasion you could see the "purple mist" when the loads were too hot. Another amazing thing is that late in the afternoon, shooting toward a setting sun, you can actually _see_ a copper-jacketed projectile "flying" toward the target. More of a "coppery after-image" but definitely visible, which is amazing for the human eye. It is possible that the copper/lead bonding is better today, and moly coatings are very slippery. I might go see what I can find for a new projectile when I get a chance. I've not "gotten into" the new moly stuff. Lots of trouble to coat the inside of the barrel, and then not cleaning it (which goes against everything I learned from 40+ years of rifle shooting). :)
