Hello Fabien, the subsequent impressions were much more favourable. I did say that what I wrote were only the "first impressions". I had Fruit take part in a short tourney later on and here is what happened (Arena GUI, hash about 64MB, Fruit with no book!, other engines using the best books I could find): 1: Crafty1906 14.0/18 ····· 4-2-0 5-0-1 3-0-3 103.25 2: Program X 9.5/18 2-4-0 ····· 1-3-2 5-0-1 65.25 3: Fruit 9.0/18 0-5-1 3-1-2 ····· 4-1-1 60.75 4: Amateur266 3.5/18 0-3-3 0-5-1 1-4-1 ····· 39.25 36 games played / Tournament finished Name of the tournament: Fruit 1 Site/ Country: PLOTINUS, United States Level: Blitz 5/0 Hardware: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ 2246 MHz Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Build 2600 Service Pack 1 PGN-File: C:\Chess\Arena\Tournaments\Fruit 1.pgn Website: E-Mail Address: This time the controls were a bit longer (G/5) and Fruit performed really well. Program X surely plays about 2480-2500 (computer Elo), whereas Amateur is a very strong blitzer and way over 2400. Fruit had problems with Crafty again, but beat Program X (surprise for me) and crushed Amateur (another surprise). Fruit is _really_ promising. However, I'd think twice about adding evals before cleaning up other stuff and adding tablebase access. May be your move generator needs some polishing first. And do give Fruit a bit of book. Illiterate as it is, it is doing quite well! Its style is very refreshing, fun to watch. UCI is working fine, no glitches at all. Djordje
