Subject: Mephisto Polgar 5 vs 10 Mhz

Good evening all.

From an earlier post:-

"As for myself, my favorite opponent is my Mephisto Polgar.

yes i loved the Polgar when it first came out
IIRC this was one of the first units that you could choose to play by Elo
strength..

did you know Mephisto also released a 10 Mhz version of the Polgar as well as
the 5 mhZ?

played about 75 elo stronger"

My view on this.

If you were to play the 5 Mhz version and then the 10 I don't think you would
say there was much in it and nothing like 75 Elo. The opening book was (I'm
pretty sure) the same in both and so the playing style would soon become
familiar. Most programs seem to stick with an early move choice so the speed
doubling doesn't help much.

If you were to play the 10 Mhz against other machines there perhaps would be an
improvement over the 5. This alone could be misleading news for a potential
buyer if Elo is important.

For most I think the 10 Mhz version was not value for money.

Tell me if I'm wrong regards.

Ray.
