After about 15 or 20 posts, I would have probably done what Harold did. Post a message at the top of the thread telling people to desist and that future posts would be deleted (I would not have used CAPITAL letters in the heading though). If I would have received a few Emails asking for the thread to be removed, I probably would have removed it. I feel that such off topic threads are not necessary (and yes, I do post such off topic messages myself), but they usually die out on their own, so the problem only has to be handled if it bothers people enough for them to Email a moderator, or if the thread gets too large and has no real computer chess content.
